University Canada West (UCW) is a private, for-profit university in British Columbia, Canada. It was founded in 2005 by David F. Strong, the former president of the University of Victoria. UCW was purchased in 2008 by the Eminata Group and in 2014 sold to Global University Systems, its present owners. Based in downtown Vancouver, the university offers undergraduate and graduate programs in business and management. The establishment of the university marked the first time in British Columbia that a for-profit institution had been authorized to use the designation "university," the result of the province's recently enacted, controversial Degree Authorization Act. UCW was approved in 2004 and opened its doors in 2005 in the former Blanshard Elementary School in Victoria, British Columbia. It initially offered undergraduate degrees in commerce, communications, geography, tourism, and economics and a master's degree in business. However, the geography, tourism, and economics programs were later dropped. The university subsequently withdrew its request to the British Columbia Degree Quality Assessment Board for approval for the new degree. UCW opened a second campus in Vancouver in 2008.

Rankings:-

UCW is the 3^rd university in Canada and the first in British Columbia to receive a 5-star rating from QS Stars. Also received a 5-star rating in special criteria of the Master of Business Administration degree program. The university is added to the 2023 edition of the career directory. The Course Compare include UCW in a list of Canada’s best online program as well as Canada’s best online university in 2023. Ranked one of the best online universities for 2021 by University magazine.

Membership and Designation:-

The University of Canada West is accredited by ACBSP for MBA and B.Com programs. UCW received permission from Education Quality Assurance to use Seal on UCW materials. This university is a member of the BC Transfer System with 100s of credit transfer arrangements to other post-secondary institutions.

Governance:-

UCW is a division of learning-wise education that was established in 2004 as an independent institution that provides quality education to undergraduate and graduate students in the Vancouver campus and through a virtual campus. The Government of British Columbia through the Degree Quality Assessment Board approved UCW to offer programs such as:- Bachelor of Arts (Business Communication), Bachelor of Commerce, Master of Business Administration, and Associate of Arts. The executive team at University Canada West sets the strategic directions of the university and leads its implementation to achieve the university's goals. The team ensures high standards of excellence across academics, programs, operations, and student satisfaction.

Campus:-

Earlier sited on two floors of an office building on Melville Street in downtown Vancouver, the university relocated in 2014 to the nearby London Building where it occupies five floors. The 10-story London Building is located at 626 West Pender Street and was originally built in 1912 for the London and British North American Company. University Canada West is set to open a new campus, Vancouver House, in July 2020, which will house 3,400 students. The University of Canada West has two easily assessable campuses in Downtown Vancouver. The new Vancouver House Campus located at 1461 Granville St. and the West Pender Campus, is located at 626 West Pender St. in the historic London building.

Vancouver House Campus:-

The campus at Vancouver House is a higher-profile development in history. This campus is having 90,000 sq. ft in two of the podium buildings in Vancouver House Development, a globally recognized project by Ar. Bjarke Ingels of BIG. It is in the beach district, Vancouver’s new neighbor, and is near Granville Island, Sunset Beach, English Bay, Vancouver’s 28 km Seawall, the world’s longest uninterrupted waterfall path.

West Pender Campus:-

This campus occupies 6 floors of the London Building, a heritage building office that dates back to the early 20s. It is in the heart of Vancouver’s financial district and just away from public transit, including the waterfront Sky train station, Bus routes, and sea bus terminal. The vibrant and lively neighborhood is full of restaurants, stores, entertainment options, shopping centers, and fitness facilities.

Academics:-

The University is accredited by the British Columbia Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills and Training and carries the education quality assurance (EQA) accreditation under the 2003 Degree Authorization Act. The university is also a member of the British Columbia Council on Admissions and Transfer. In 2017, the undergraduate and postgraduate business degrees received accreditation from Council for Business School and Programs (ACBSP). In 2019, UCW offered a Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Arts in Communication, and Master of Business Administration. These courses are provided both on campus and online as well as full-time and part-time study options. UCW also offers an Associate of Arts Degree.
