The University of Birmingham was founded in 1900 and the first Chancellor was Joseph Chamberlain. Birmingham was represented as the new Model for Higher Education. More than 100 years on, the Birmingham campus has grown to 672 acres, and we also now have a campus in Dubai. Each year, the university welcomes more than 30,000 students from across the world. The size has changed, but the civic commitment has not. With the vibrant community and disciplinary opportunities, the university consists of 8000 staff, 38000 students, and over 300000 alumni. In 2009 the staff was expanded to over 500 more researchers and teachers.

Rankings:-

The university has achieved many amazing rankings such as grabbing the 84^th rank in the QS World University Ranking 2024. This university maintained its position in the top 100 universities globally by placing the university itself at the 15^th position amongst UK universities. In the 2023 Times Higher Education World University Ranking, the university is positioned at 108^th out of 1400 and 12^th out of 100 UK universities ranked. Shanghai Jiao Tong University World Ranking Ranked the University of Birmingham in the top 101 out of 150.

CAMPUS LIFE:-

The campus of this university is a place where the university students relax, and socialize in the diverse community. The green and spacious campus with 35,000 students and 150 different nationalist campuses will help students develop their skills in the vibrant campus atmosphere. The campus is a hive of activity all year round. In winter, students will find the Winter Festival on campus, complete with a big wheel and hot chocolate. In summer, the university hosts a Summer Ball on campus with live music and a funfair. With regular student socials, research showcases, family fun days, live sporting events, and more, there is always something exciting happening. With this the campus has amazing food and drink facilities like Starbucks, Barbeque, Joe’s bar, and restaurants, There are regular farmers markets on campus to pick up raw ingredients and tasty takeaway treats, and there are student bars where students can get a drink and catch up with friends. The University has a Catering Charter that details how we uphold the commitment to providing students and visitors with high-quality food and drink, produced with sustainability in mind.  Caring for the environment is at the center of campus life, including a range of initiatives around plastic waste, green travel, biodiversity, energy usage, and embedding sustainability across all that the university does. The Green Community accommodation offer is a unique offering for those keen to explore sustainable living methods within their home, and the Guild of Students hosts a range of groups and societies for those interested in the environment. The university even has its own forestry research center looking at the impact of climate and environmental change on woodlands. University embeds sustainable design into new buildings, there are cycle and e-scooter hire schemes on campus, and we actively support students in becoming sustainable members of the University community.

ARTS & CULTURE:-

The University of Birmingham is home to a diverse cultural offer which includes public museums, galleries, archives, libraries, and cultural venues. The cultural collections and venues deliver innovative and high-quality research, teaching, and public engagement. Lapworth Museum:-

Enabling visitors to explore life over the past 3.5 billion years, the Lapworth Museum showcases exceptional objects from one of the UK’s most outstanding geological collections. The university's state-of-the-art galleries and range of innovative and interactive exhibits are all completely free of charge. From rocks and fossils to volcanoes, earthquakes, and even dinosaurs, the Museum captures the imagination of all ages.

Sports and Fitness:-

As an Official Partner of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, the University of Birmingham played a key role in delivering an outstanding international sporting event that focused the eyes of the world on the city, the region, and the world-leading reputation for excellence. In the top 7 of UK university sports and with 55 welcoming sports clubs to choose from, whether the student is an international athlete or wants to play sports casually with friends, students will be at home in Birmingham. Birmingham is already well-known for its sporting pedigree and playing its part at the center of a major international tournament further cements its position amongst the global sporting elite. The university can’t wait to showcase its vibrant city to the world as part of the university's commitment to sports for all. The UB Sport & Fitness club includes a 200+ station gym, 180 fitness classes a week, a huge range of Social Sport and Try Sport sessions, a 10m climbing wall, six glass-back squash courts, and Birmingham's first 50m pool. For students based in Selly Oak, there is also a gym-only facility,  Tiverton Gym, offering a convenient and well-equipped workout in the local student village. 

Student’s accommodation:-

With its beautiful and amazing campus life, the university provides accommodation to international students. Coming to Birmingham to study might be a student's first time living away from home. • Ashcroft: Ashcroft is set in the heart of leafy Pritchatts Park in landscaped grounds, near the Metchley sports pitches.
• Bournebrook: Home to 178 students living in stylish en-suite accommodation, Bournbrook is a modern residential development that opened its doors in 2017.
• Jarratt House: Built around a residents' courtyard, Jarratt Hall is home to more than 700 undergraduate and postgraduate students, all living in en-suite flats.
• Shackleton (shared): Housing 350 students at the heart of the Vale Village community, Shackleton offers mainly catered accommodation through the Meal Plan.

Academics:-

The university encourages and welcomes the independent thinking of the students and offers a high-quality teaching and studying experience. Students are welcome to participate in the diverse community of the university. At Birmingham, students will have the opportunity to gain work experience, take part in research projects, work with an alumni mentor, undertake summer internships, and more. In a competitive graduate job market, Students Careers Network provides the tools to ensure stand out from the crowd at the fourth most targeted university by top employers in 2021. University careers service, Careers Network, is a dedicated service for students. The university expert professionals can provide students with guidance and support to help them succeed after university. The university holds workshops, fairs, and 1:1 consultations to help students develop their skills. All the support students need is here for them, it’s up to the students to make the most of it. Well for undergraduate students there are many different subject areas to study as per their interest. The academics are again restructured in the 5 colleges which have many different schools.
